Windsock Village

One very unique community is little known and located just east of route 16 in West Ossipee. That is the community of Windsock Village a private community situated alongside a beautiful grass airfield. The runway is centrally located between the developments of Windsock Village and Soaring Heights. Windsock Village comprised of Windsock the initial development started in the late 70s expanded soon after with Windsock 2 comprising the community of Windsock Village, which is on the western edge of the airfield. Soaring Heights across the field sits on the eastern edge is the newer addition having been developed in 2002.

Windsock is one of very few aviation communities located in New England and even rarer is the fact that the airfield is grass maintained year round.  Mowed during the summer months,  plowed during winter offering pilots year round flying. One of the great sights during winter is witnessing antique aircraft operating on snow skis. Something very common in the early days of aviation, but seldom seen today.

While an aviation community only a small percentage of residents own and operate aircraft, so it is a very peaceful environment. To the southeast Windsock abuts the Ossipee Pine Barrens, conservation land owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy. Nature is abundant throughout the area offering trails to observing nature, for a quit walk, cross country skiing or snow shoeing. During the summer months blue berries illuminate the grounds.

There are a wide variation of homes and building lots available. Some properties have aviation rights allowing home owners use of the airfield and many have beach rights to Pine Landing Beach Club situated on Ossipee Lake about a 10 minute drive offering sandy beaches, crystal clear water for swimming, and everything needed to keep cool during the hot summer months.

Windsock is a perfect setting for aviators and non-aviators alike.  Snow mobile trails are also easily accessed from the area. West Ossipee is conveniently located just 30 minutes south of North Conway, 2 hours north of Boston, 1 hour west of Portland, 30 minutes to Lake Winnipesaukee and a short drive to Ossipee Lake.
